A 23-page report by an EERI reconnaissance team on the Societal Dimensions of the March 11, 2011, Great East Japan (Tohoku) Earthquake and Tsunami is now available online at http://www.eqclearinghouse.org/2011-03-11-sendai/files/2011/03/Japan-SocSci-Rpt-hirez-rev.pdf (7MB).

It covers the topics of emergency management, casualties, emergency shelter and housing, economic impacts, debris management, recovery clanning, and research questions for each topic.

Reports on the impacts of the Japan earthquake by teams focusing on geotechnical aspects, buildings, and the tsunami will be posted later in August and in September. A summary insert, extracting material from each of these online inserts, will be published in the EERI Newsletter later this year.
